Lions, Topol and Chad. Oh my!

A four-week run of "The Lion King" hits Spokane next November, highlighting the five-show 2009-2010 Best of Broadway Series, which WestCoast Entertainment announced late yesterday to 500-some supporters. Returning after a successful extended run four years ago, "The Lion King" will come to Spokane for 32 shows between Nov. 11 and Dec. 6 of this year. Also, acclaimed actor Chaim Topol will sing his way into your hearts playing his award-winning role in "Fiddler On The Roof" Sept. 1-6. Topol, star of the original motion picture version of "Fiddler," will be making his farewell tour with this production. Another star will return with the show that made her famous. Melissa Gilbert, who played lovable little girl Laura in the original 1970s television series "Little House on the Prairie", now plays Ma in the touring Broadway production, which graces the INB Performing Arts Center stage April 8-11, 2010. Before the pure life of the Midwest plains, the gritty and subversive "Avenue Q" comes to town Feb. 11-14. As an extra treat, the Chad Mitchell Trio, a popular 1960s folk group that got its start in Spokane, will play a 50th anniversary concert on Oct. 24, 2009.
