Fox Theater 90th Birthday Celebration this Friday



Spokane's iconic Art Deco-style Fox Theater, owned and operated by the Spokane Symphony, turns 90 years old this Friday, September 3. To celebrate, there will be a free Open House from noon to 4pm and the public is invited to bring a mask and enjoy self-guided tours; Spokane Symphony and other event tickets on sale; Spokane Symphony virtual concerts playing on the giant screen; author Jim Kershner signing his book, The Sound of Spokane: A History of the Spokane Symphony; Chris Bovey's Fox Theater merchandise for sale; KSPS Public Television's Fox Theater documentary DVD for sale; refreshments; plus a birthday card to sign and share thoughts and memories about our community's beloved gathering place.

To add to the birthday celebration, KSPS Public Television will air their documentary, 'Spokane's 21st Century Fox,' on KSPS-TV on tonight, Thursday, September 2 at 7pm and Sunday, September 5 at 2pm. The documentary explores the history of the Fox Theater from its grand opening in 1931 to the massive restoration process that led to the grand re-opening in 2007.

Free Spokane Symphony Labor Day Weekend concerts return



The Spokane Symphony's traditional free Labor Day Weekend Concerts in the parks are back this year after being canceled during the pandemic in 2020. They are at Liberty Lake's Pavillion Park on Saturday, September 4 at 6pm and at the Riverfront Park Pavilion on Labor Day, Monday, September 6 at 6pm. These two concerts are the symphony's gift to the community. They mark the end of summer and the start of the new classical music season. Music Director James Lowe conducts a lineup of light classics, patriotic tunes and music from movies and Broadway.

Chad Mitchell Trio book signing at First Interstate Center September 9



Celebrate the publication of a book about the Chad Mitchell Trio, a group whose music had a profound influence on the social and political awareness of an entire generation. At this event, which takes place Thursday, September 9, 5pm at First Interstate Center for the Arts, you will see video glimpses of Trio performances during the peak of the 60's folk music era, as well as their reunion years. You'll hear some music including the debut of a Chad Mitchell Trio song you've never heard before. You'll hear from both Chad and Mike. And you'll have an opportunity to get your books signed.

Zuill Bailey goes global on 'Symphony Hall' on SIRIUS XM



The all new recording of the Complete Bach Suites for Unaccompanied Cello with BachFest's Artistic Director, Grammy Award Winner Zuill Bailey, in pure DSD High Resolution Audio is the 'Album of the Week,' on SIRIUSXM Symphony Hall. You can hear this on SIRIUS XM this Friday, September 3 at 5pm. This new Zuill Bailey recording is receiving high acclaim, and it is now also available as a CD that will be available at all of the BachFest September Concerts at Barrister Winery. The Allman Betts Band coming to the Fox September 11



After a successful year touring as The Devon Allman Project with special guest Duane Betts, the sons of Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts have joined forces to form The Allman Betts Band. They will have a special performance at the Fox Theater on Saturday, September 11 at 8pm. Special guest is Marc Ford and the River Kittens.

Browne's Addition special concert this Sunday

The Rising, led by Sean Owsley, will play a special concert in Coeur d'Alene Park in Browne's Addition this Sunday, September 5 at 5pm. This performance is rescheduled from a Browne's Addition Summer Concert cancelled because of poor air quality on August 12. The Rising is an energetic cover band that plays classic and current hits. The trio is made up of Sean Owsley, Shane Chamberlin and Mike Lynch. The concert, sponsored by Browne's Addition Neighborhood Council, is free but donations will be collected at intermission to help offset the expenses of presenting the concert.

Funky Junk Antique Show this weekend

The Funky Junk Antique Show is returning this Labor Day Weekend at the Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N Boyer Ave in Sandpoint. The event will be full of treasures, live music, delicious food & drinks and lots of fun. Sister's on the Fly will be there with a display of their vintage camp trailers. The event runs this Saturday and Sunday, September 4 & 5. $5 admission, good for both days, and children under 12 free. The website is funkyjunkantiqueshow.com.
