Wednesday, January 29, 2020 Two Grammy wins for 2020 BachFest featured artists
The Attacca String Quartet that will be the featured artists for the 2020 Northwest BachFest, to be held from Tuesday, February 25 to Saturday, February 29. The Quartet won two Grammy's at last week's ceremony. The first was for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance. Receiving this Grammy puts the spotlight on this young string quartet that had already received significant recognition.
The second was for Best Contemporary Classical Composition for Caroline Shaw's Orange album performed by the Attacca String Quartet. They will be performing Entr'acte from the Grammy-winning composition on Wednesday, February 26 at Barrister Winery. Artistic Director Zuill Bailey, without fear of setting up a disappointment, predicted to the full house at the Itzhak Perlman concert at the Fox Theater on January 13 that the Attacca Quartet would win a 2020 Grammy!

 Cherry Poppin' Daddies perform with the Spokane Symphony February 1
The Cherry Poppin' Daddies join the Spokane Symphony for their first-ever orchestra concert this Saturday, February 1, 8pm at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. The Daddies, from Eugene, OR, set the bar for the neo-swing movement of the 90s with their huge hit, 'Zoot Suit Riot.' The Spokane Symphony's own David Armstrong, assistant principal second violinist, wrote the arrangements for the Daddies' music for this concert, giving the Daddies a new avenue for their music in the future, backed by the full power of symphony orchestras. Don't miss these cool cats, playing with the Spokane Symphony for one show only -- it will be a concert full of swing music, mixed with other genres, including Americana, rockability, rhythm and blues and soul.

Human trafficking movie to be filmed on Kalispel Reservation
As our mayor, Nadine Woodward, has declared January Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a new movie by Misty Shipman-Ellingburg of Ugly Cousin Productions, sponsored by Spokane Arts, is taking the issue head-on as it relates to Indigenous People in our local area, and across the U.S. and Canada.
Tiger Lily Is My Little Sister will be filmed on the Kalispell Reservation. Actor and Producer on the film Terry L. Fossum who is also acting and producing another film pertaining to human trafficking, Role Prey, states "this horrendous crime must be brought out of the shadows and into the light, so these children can be saved." Other producers include Hope Shipman-Ellingsburg, and Rick Rivera, actor and acting coach in Spokane.
