New exhibits at the MAC

Two remarkable exhibitions open at The MAC

Above the Fold: New Expressions in Origami is an engaging look at the modern advances of origami through contemporary artwork now open at the MAC through Sunday, July 15. The exhibition demonstrates the extraordinary artistic achievements being made in the world of contemporary origami. In the hands of nine international artists, paper is transformed into dramatic sculpture, large-scale installations and conceptual works that make sophisticated observations about contemporary issues. Above the Fold is the first traveling exhibition to bring origami from around the world to North American audiences.

Sayaka Ganz: Reclaimed Creations, is another new exhibit, which runs through Sunday, August 26. Ganz utilizes reclaimed plastic objects, such as discarded utensils, like brush strokes which appear unified at a distance though separated in close proximity. She describes her style as '3D impressionism.' Sculptures in the exhibition include recent installations of animals in motion which are rich in color and energy and create an illusion of form.
