Spokane Symphony Mourns Loss of Kendall Feeney

Kendall Feeney, who served as principal keyboardist with the Spokane Symphony, passed away on March 5. Nationally recognized as a pianist, teacher, and advocate for new music, she was a member of the piano faculty of Eastern Washington University. Music Director Eckart Preu has planned a tribute to this much loved and respected musician at the upcoming concert, 'The Russian Soul,' on Saturday, March 25 at 8pm and again on Sunday, March 26 at 3pm at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. The orchestra will perform Albinoni's Adagio for Organ and Strings in G minor in honor of Feeney.

Feeney has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Asia and has been featured on National Public Radio's 'Performance Today.' From 1991 to 2003, she was Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed Northwest concert series ZEPHYR, dedicated to bringing a wide range of music by living composers to classical audiences. More recently, she was director of the EWU Contemporary Music Ensemble. She was awarded the 1997 Individual Artist of the Year by the Spokane Arts Commission and is included in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Women.

Kendall Feeney's treasured grand piano is being donated to the Spokane Symphony and will be placed in the Founder's Gallery at the theater. A memorial service is planned for the coming weeks.
