Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue performed by the Spokane Symphony this weekend



The Spokane Symphony Classics concert series continues this weekend with a special concert of 'American Wonders,' including George Gershwin's Masterpiece, 'Rhapsody in Blue.' Other selections featured include William Schuman's 'American Festival Overture,' Grofe's 'Grand Canyon Suite,' and Stravinsky's 'Concerto for Piano with Wind Instruments,' with Eckart Preu conducting. Special guest pianist is Andreas Boyde.

Performances are this Saturday, October 10 at 8pm and Sunday, October 11 at 3pm.

Dale Watson & His Lone Stars at Chateau Rive Thursday night



Dubbed 'the silver pompadoured, baritone beltin', Lone Star beer drinkin', honky-tonk hellraiser' by The Austin Chronicle, Dale Watson recently sat in with Jimmy Kimmel's house band as a guest on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (ABC) from SXSW. He even played a barn dance for the contetants on ABC's 'The Bachelorette.' A veteran touring artist and consummate entertainer, he is on the road more than 300 days a year. He is a country music maverick, a true outlaw who stands alongside Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and George Strait as one of the finest country singers and songwriters from the Lone Star State.

Wisdom Earned coming to the INB October 10 to benefit Spokane Guilds' School

A special showing of the award winning documentary film, 'Wisdom Earned,' will be shown this Saturday, October 10, 7pm, at the INB. This special event will benefit the Spokane Guilds' School and Neuromuscular Center. Half of the funds brought in will go to benefit this non-profit organization dedicated to helping our special need children ages up to three years old.

'Wisdom Earned - A Mountain Climbers Perspective' is a feature length documentary film, based on mountain climber Chris Kopczynski's amazing life story, tells what he learned from climbing to the tops of the world's highest mountains on seven continents, including Antarctica and Mt. Everest twice. The film was written and directed by Lon Gibby and co-produced by Chris Kopczynski and Gibby Media Group Inc.

Spokane Central Service Center art dedication October 15

Art work by Coeur d'Alene artists Allen and Mary Dee Dodge will be dedicated at City of Spokane Service Center, 909 North Nelson, Thursday, October 15, 11 am (Meet north of the fence on E. Desmet between Stone and Nelson).

As part of the construction of the Spokane Central Service Center for the City of Spokane, Allen and Mary Dee Dodge were commissioned to create a work of art for the site. The artists will be on site to answer questions about the creation of the art work. The event is free and open to the public.

The artists have created seven steel figures of animal forms with internal supporting structure with enamel sections and base of concrete. Allen and Mary Dee Dodge are well-established in the region with gallery representation with Art Spirit Gallery in Coeur d'Alene and with a history of public art including a major project at the Waste Water Treatment Facility in Coeur d'Alene.

Art selection and project management for this project was provided by Spokane Arts.

Comedian Kathy Griffin at Northern Quest tomorrow night



Two-time Emmy and Grammy award-winning comedian Kathy Griffin has been entertaining crowds for more than 20 years with her legendary live standup performances and appearances on television and Broadway. Last year, Griffin made history with her sixth consecutive Grammy nomination and first win for Best Comedy Album, 'Kathy Griffin: Calm Down Gurrl'. With that esteemed honor, she became only the third female comedian to ever win a Grammy for Best Comedy Album.

She will be on stage at Northern Quest tomorrow night, October 8 at 7:30.

Any connoisseur of Seventies rock music will certainly remember Rare Earth. Their funky good-time music is still played on classic rock stations across the country and their place in pop music history is firmly cemented. Peter Rivera is the original drummer and lead vocalist behind all of the hits. Wherever these classics are played people inevitably say something like: "I'd know that voice anywhere!"

With Peter on drums and lead vocals, Rare Earth sold over twenty-five million records. Peter recorded over seventeen albums, featuring several top ten hits. Morning Star Boys' Ranch benefit Oct 17

On Saturday, October 17, from 6 to 9 pm, Morning Star Boys' Ranch is hosting an amazing night of music, food, wine and friends with the Spokane String Quartet at Barrister Winery, 1213 West Railroad Avenue. In addition to the evening's program great music, food and wine, Mayor Condon will also be present and will be saying a few words about at-risk youth in our community and the work of the Boys' Ranch.

Champagne and appetizer reception, with youth pianist Caleb Hindman performing pieces by Bach and Beethoven, followed by a bountiful fall meal with award-winning Barrister wines, accompanied by Spokane Youth String Quartet playing works of Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak and McLean.

After dinner, the grand event will be the Spokane String Quartet performing Beethoven's magnificent 'String Quartet No. 13, Opus 130.'
