Trackside Studio Ceramic Art Gallery presents 'Local Raku'

Trackside Gallery at 115 S. Adams presents 'Local Raku', an invitational June 5 through 30, featuring Spokane artists Leslie Ahrens, Lee Ayars, Daryl Baird, Liz Bishop, Jeff Harris, David Hutchens, Ginger Oakes and Jill Smith. Opening Receptions and Meet and Greet the Artists are this First Friday, June 5, from 5-8pm and Saturday, June 6, noon-4pm.

The exhibit features ceramics produced using the Raku process. Contemporary Raku is a low fired process ending with the removal of pieces from the kiln while still glowing hot. Depending on what effect the artist wants, the pottery is then either instantly cooled in water, cooled slowly in the open air, or placed in a barrel filled with combustible material, such as newspaper, covered, and allowed to smoke. It is Raku's unpredictable results and intense color that attract modern potters.

Trackside Studio Gallery hours are Wednesday - Friday, 11am-3pm. For more information call 509-863-9904 or go to tracksidestudio.net.

Kevin Cole at the Kroc Center June 12

From Carnegie Hall to Coeur d'Alene: Internationally acclaimed pianist and vocalist Kevin Cole performs at the Coeur d'Alene's Kroc Center, Friday June 12, at 7pm.

Kevin Cole has delighted audiences with a repertoire that includes the best of 20th Century American Music. His performances, especially his interpretation of Gershwin, have prompted accolades from some of the foremost critics in American music. "When Cole sits down at the piano, you would swear Gershwin himself was at work. Cole stands as the best Gershwin pianist in America today," wrote Howard Reich, arts critic for The Chicago Tribune.

It is rare opportunity to see someone of Kevin's caliber perform in a small venue such as the Kroc Center as in the past he has filled the Hollywood Bowl, the Kennedy Center and Royal Albert Hall. As a matter of fact, he played Carnegie Hall on May 7 and on June 3, he will play in New York again for the Marv Hamlisch tribute sharing a stage with Bernadette Peters, Lucie Arnaz, Michael Douglas, Idina Menzel and more.

Kevin was vocally trained by Hugh Martin who also trained Judy Garland and wrote 'The Trolly' song. Kevin tells background stories for each piece...he is witty and engaging and a fabulous all around entertainer. He will be playing the music of Ira Gershwin, songs from 20th Century American songbook and Rhapsody in Blues as written.
