Symphony and Celtic Singer Cathie Ryan to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day



Celebrate St. Patrick's Day early, this Saturday, March 7 at 8pm, with Morihiko Nakahara conducting the Spokane Symphony with a spirit-lifting evening of Irish music, featuring singer Cathie Ryan, hailed as "one of the leading voices in Celtic music" (Los Angeles Times). The former Cherish the Ladies band member shares her lovely lyrics, beloved ballads and traditional tunes of the Emerald Isle, and what she calls 'songs of the heart.'

Sharing the stage with Cathie Ryan is the Cathie Ryan Band, featuring Patsy O'Brien (guitar, banjo, vocals), Matt Mancuso (trumpet, octave mandolin, guitar, vocals, and star fiddle player in Lord of the Dance) and Brian Melick (percussion).

Custer's Spring Arts & Crafts Show this Weekend

Custer's 38th Annual Spring Arts & Crafts Show starts this Friday, March 6 and runs through Sunday, March 8 at the Spokane County Fair & Expo Center. Over 300 professional artists and crafters from the Pacific Northwest will bring their their hand-crafted items and original artwork, and over 30 artists are new to the show this spring. Show hours are Friday, 10am-8pm; Saturday 10am-6pm; and Sunday 10am-4pm. Admission is $7 for adults, good all weekend. Kids 12 and under free.

Annual Northwest Bach Festival continues through Sunday March 8

The 37th Annual Northwest Bach Festival and Series, with Zuill Bailey as Artistic Director, runs all week and concludes on Sunday, March 8. It's been a celebration of musical events each day in landmark venues in Spokane.

Spokane String Quartet Observes the Ides of March at their next concert

Joseph Haydn's 'The Razor' highlights the program when the Spokane String Quartet observes the Ides of March at 3pm Sunday, March 15, at the Bing Crosby Theater. The program also includes a performance of Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8 in C minor. And the Ides of March wouldn't be complete without a Caesar, so the concert also includes Cesar Franck's String Quartet in D Major.

The Spokane String Quartet consists of Mateusz Wolski and Amanda Howard-Phillips, violins; Jeannette Wee-Yang, viola; and Helen Byrne, cello.

All seats are general admission. Tickets are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors and $12 for students. Ticket prices include a $3 theater preservation fee and are available at www.ticketswest.com or 800-325-SEAT, www.spokanestringquartet.org, or at the door.


Trackside Studio features the artwork of Gina Freuen this month



Trackside Studio Ceramic Art Gallery's March exhibit, 'Show of Hands' features original graphite and mixed media drawings by Gonzaga University Art Department instructor Gina Freuen and ceramics by Trackside's studio artists, Chris Kelsey and Mark Moore, themed 'of the hand,' 'by the hand,' and 'held by hand.' Opening receptions are Friday, March 6, 5-8 pm and Saturday, March 7, noon-4 pm. Exhibit continues through the month of March with gallery hours Wednesday through Friday from 11 am-3 pm.

Spokane Home & Garden Show Coming March 13-15

The 39th Annual Spring Spokane Home & Garden Show will be Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15 at the Spokane Convention Center. The Spokane Home & Garden Show is the oldest running consumer home show in Spokane, and is focused on building, renovation, landscaping, design and decor. The exhibitors will be showcasing kitchens, room additions, windows, doors, sunrooms, fencing, spas, remodeling contractors, landscaping, decks, flooring, home security, basements, solar energy and much more.

Uncle D's Comedy underground welcomes comedian Mike Wally Walter, this Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7. Walter is a stand up comedian whose been working the comedy highways since 1982. He's brought his high energy, politically incorrect humor to all over America and Canada. Fans have described him as a cross between Don Rickles and Jonathan Winters. Mike is a motivational speaker as a cancer survivor and someone dealing with Diabetes. He used humor to beat cancer and shares this information with the audience.

Robert Kraut Art Exhibit at Vino! this month



Visual Artist Robert Kraut will be showcasing his Paintskin Artwork this month at Vino! Wine Shop Gallery in the Tasting Room. Whitworth Theatre presents These Shining Lives

The spring Whitworth Theatre production will feature 'These Shining Lives', based on the tragic story of the ill-fated 'Radium Girls' in 1920s Illinois. Performances are 7:30 pm on March 6, 7, 13 and 14, and at 2 pm on March 8. All showings will take place in Whitworth's Cowles Auditorium. General admission is $10; $8 for students and seniors aged 62 and over.

Spokane Youth Music Consortium Wind Concert Tonight at the Fox

Spokane Youth Music Consortium and Holy Names Music Center presents the Spokane Area Wind Ensemble, High School Honor Band and Eastern Washington University Wind Ensemble Featuring Gunnery Sgt. Today, March 4 at 5pm, Merlyn's Spokane will premier Colton Worley and Warren Ellis' 'Project Superpowers: Blackcross'.
