'War Bonds: Love Stories from the Greatest Generation' this Sunday at Aunties



Local columnist, reporter, and author Cindy Hval is releasing a new book called, 'War Bonds: Love Stories from the Greatest Generation.' The book tells the stories of marriages and families forged during and after World War II, as the Greatest Generation became the backbone of our society. These relationships were tested and thrived under the most difficult circumstances. "This book is a celebration of love, sacrifice, and commitment between men and women," said Hval.

Hval will read selected excerpts from 'War Bonds' at Auntie's Bookstore, 402 W Main on Sunday, February 22 at 3:30pm and signing copies afterward.

Sante's Jeremy Hansen on Beard's 2015 semifinalist list



The James Beard Foundation released its list of semifinalists in the 2015 Restaurant and Chef Awards. And Sante chef Jeremy Hansen is on the list for Best Chef in the Northwest. Over the next month, this 'long list' will be pared down. On Tuesday, March 24, the finalists will be announced. Finally, the winners of the Book, Broadcast & Journalism Awards will be honored at a dinner on Friday, April 24 at Pier Sixty in New York City. The winners of the Chef and Restaurant awards will be announced at the official Awards Gala & Reception on Monday, May 4, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. This is the first time the awards will take place outside of New York City.

Bach is back!



The 37th Annual Northwest Bach Festival & Series with Zuill Bailey Artistic Director, presented by Connoisseur Concerts will be held in Spokane February 24 - March 8 with a celebration of musical events each day in landmark venues in Spokane.

This year's Festival will offer four Festival Classics Concerts featuring local and guest artists and will also offer a Twilight Tour series of the six J.S. Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin performed by guest violinists Kurt Nikkanen and Soovin Kim.

A new feature will be offered, Noon-time Flash-Bach! programs by Zuill Bailey, cello, with 20-30 minutes of music presented free of charge in six various business, government and medical locations in the area.

Festival Film Classics, classic films related to the Festival's music program, will be screened at The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture Auditorium.

Spokane Symphony Classics feature Schubert and Beethoven

Music Director Eckart Preu and the Spokane Symphony will perform Schubert's famous piece, the romantic 'Unfinished' Symphony (No. 8)), and Beethoven's Symphony No. 2, along with Arvo Part's masterpiece Tabula Rasa: Ludus ('Game'), showcasing the talents of Principal Second Violin Amanda Howard-Phillips and Concertmaster Mateusz Wolski.

Performances are at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox on Saturday, February 28 at 8pm and Sunday, March 1 at 3pm.
