Dean Davis Exhibit at the MAC starting Nov 28



Gifted local photographer, Dean Davis, will have a special exhibit at the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture starting Friday, November 28.

The Exhibition, 'The Artist's Palette: Through the Lens of Dean Davis' will feature photographs of the paint palettes of 24 notable artists. Photographed directly overhead in a wide shot using a macro lens, the photographs are stunning, colorful works of art. The exhibit runs through June 2015.

The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture is located at 2316 W First Ave in Browne's Addition. The MAC Galleries and Museum Store are open Wednesday through Sunday, 10am to 5pm. For more information, visit www.northwestmuseum.org.


Spokane Arts announces new Executive Director, Laura Becker



After managing arts programs and events in the Seattle area since 2001, Laura Becker, originally from Spokane, is returning home to take the position of Executive Director of Spokane Arts. She brings a wealth of knowledge, strong leadership skills, a deep passion for the arts and a vast amount of experience in community engagement and arts participation. Originally from Spokane, Laura is a practicing artist, independent curator and producer of arts events.

Most recently, Laura managed '1% for Art' projects for the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) and the Office of Arts & Culture, serving as a consulting artist, designer and project manager. Laura has been a champion for arts and culture over the last decade, balancing leadership roles in both public arts administration and non-profit management.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to return to Spokane and continue the work of defining the region as a cultural destination with a strong identity around the arts," said Laura. "Spokane has an incredible creative capacity and a very supportive and tight-knit arts community. I want to focus on cultivating Spokane talent while providing new and bold arts experiences for locals and visitors alike."

Spokane Arts works to amplify Spokane as the cultural hub and catalyst for the Inland Northwest through arts leadership, advocacy, networking and support. Christmas Tree Elegance begins December 2



The holidays are upon us and you don't want to miss this year's Christmas Tree Elegance, beginning Tuesday, December 2 and running through December 14, at the Davenport Hotel and River Park Square. This year will be a raffle of 18 themed custom-decorated trees with prizes which include gift certificates, items and cash valued at $5,000.

The traditional holiday luncheon and fashion show will be on December 9 and will feature local boutiques. Last year, a tea was added with fashions for young people as well as their mothers and grandmothers. The luncheon and tea will be in the Grand Pennington Ballroom starting at 11 am. The chance to win one of the fabulously decorated trees and all its themed gifts has been a Spokane holiday tradition for over 30 years. Thousands of visitors from across the Inland Northwest come to view the trees and purchase the $1 raffle tickets for a chance to win. The annual extravaganza is created and sponsored by Spokane Symphony Associates, a 300-member volunteer organization that raises more than $200,000 in support of the Spokane Symphony each year.

Knitting Factory Presents Super Diamond and Clumsy Lovers

Christmas photos at Campbell House, November 29



Start a new tradition this year. The Campbell House Library, complete with lighted Christmas tree, opens for a one-day-only opportunity for groups of 8 or less to schedule a professional holiday studio photograph. This unique event, Saturday, November 29 from 10 am to 4 pm, is hosted by the Campbell House Committee and raises funds for ongoing restoration and preservation of this cherished regional historic house museum and its public programming.

The fee is $50 for a group of up to 8 persons. No pets. Fee includes same-day MAC admission. Reservations are highly recommended: 509-363-5355. Check in at MAC Admissions Desk on day of event.

Spokane Symphony Classics Series features American Cellist Edward Arron



The Spokane Symphony's Classic series continues this weekend and will feature the music of Haydn, Dvorak and Kilar. Micahel Nesterowicz is guest conductor and internationally renowned cellist Edward Arron will perform Haydn's Cello Concerto.

Concerts are 8pm on Saturday, November 22 and 3pm on Sunday, November 23 at the Fox Theater. A pre-concert talk about the music will be held in the hall one hour before each performance. Arron will be giving a master class on Friday, November 21 at 3 pm. Tickets range from $15 to $54.

'A Christmas Carol' at Civic



'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens is the holiday family classic tale of love and redemption. Custer's Christmas Arts & Craft Show this weekend

Custer's 38th annual Christmas Arts and Craft Show is this Friday through Sunday, November 21-23 at the Spokane Fair and Expo Center. This is the largest show of its kind in the Inland Northwest with over 300 professional artists and crafters from across the Pacific Northwest.

Riverfront Park to Come Alive with Lights at Spokane Winter Glow Spectacular Lighting Ceremony

Spokane Winter Glow Spectacular, the city's newest family holiday tradition, kicks off with an official lighting ceremony at 6:30pm on Friday, November 28th at the Rotary Fountain on Spokane Falls Boulevard. The soon to be annual lighting event, which will dress up Riverfront Park in spectacular style, continues nightly from 5-9pm through January 1st, with slightly longer hours on the weekends.

Winter Glow features over 30 displays that celebrate the Spokane community. The nightly event is free and open to the public. Carriage and wagon rides will be available for a nominal fee.
