Patty Duke in "The Giver" at the Bing



Laura Little Theatrical Productions presents Patty Duke in a theatrical reading of "The Giver" today at 2pm and again at 7pm at the Bing Crosby Theater, with a talkback after each performance. This is the stage adaption from the Newbery Award winning book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry.

Patty Duke is an Academy and Emmy Award winning actress known for her roles in the Miracle Worker, The Patty Duke Show, Valley of the Dolls, Billie, Captain and the Kings and Me, Natalie.

The show is directed by Patrick Treadway, who is also in the cast, along with Tate Erwin, Caroline Slater, Leilani Santiago and Jordan Santiago

Price is $15 adults, $12.50 seniors 65 +, $10 students 12 and under. Ticketswest has your seats.


George Flett prints offered Friday



This Friday from noon to 8 pm, the Spokane Tribe's Culture gallery, on the skywalk level of Old City Hall, 221 N. Wall, will host a fundraiser by George Flett, Jr. for the Spokane Tribe's 99th annual Labor Day Pow Wow with a sale of George Flett prints. All proceeds go to the George Flett Prairie Chicken Dance Special.

Nectar is taking their "show" on the road July 27

Nectar Tasting Room and Encore Events & Presentations team up for a day trip, Saturday, July 27th to the Red Mountain. During the trip guests will enjoy two Nectar wineries and two of our best friends. Sunset Symphonies at Arbor Crest

Grab your blanket, basket and shades because the Symphony is ready to serenade you as the sun sets over the city. For its Soiree on the Edge series, the Spokane Symphony will play two distinct concerts on two consecutive Wednesdays: July 31 and August 7 at 7pm at Arbor Crest Wine Cellars at 4705 North Fruit Hill Road.

The Arbor Crest estate is less than 20 minutes from downtown, but a world away. Come early so you can experience Arbor Crest's award-winning wines and breathtaking views from its cliff-top estate. Happy 104th birthday to our carrousel



Riverfront Park will be hosting a 104th Birthday Celebration for the Looff Carrousel this Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20, from 2 - 6 p.m. Special features will include a book signing by Janene Grendem, illustrator of the new book, The Great Carousel Race. Additionally, look for a silk art demonstration along with discounted Carrousel rides (2 - 6 p.m. only and just $1), birthday hats & balloons, cake and a coloring activity (while supplies last).

Latah Creek Wine Cellars Unveils New Label and Product Offerings

Latah Creek Wine Cellars is unveiling a new label and a variety of new products as they enter their 31st year of wine production. Established in 1982, Latah Creek Wine Cellars is one of only a few family-owned and operated wineries in the state. Latah Creek currently produces 12 different wines, with 60% of their production directed towards their most popular wines: Riesling and Huckleberry d'Latah. Latah Creek is also known for their red wines, and was recognized by Wine Spectator Magazine as one of the top producers of Merlot in the State of Washington.

To further enhance their wine portfolio, Latah Creek is introducing a Sweet Riesling to their product line, as well as an increase in their Moscato production. Both these white wines will reach the market this summer and will be available in stores that currently carry the Latah brand. In addition a new red wine, Malbec, is slated for release this fall. County Raceway Oval NOT closing

Citing poor car count and big expenses, Spokane County Raceway general manager Craig Smith announced that a number of special events, including the remaining two races of the Inland Northwest Superstock Association have been cancelled on the half-mile oval.

They are not closing the oval, just eliminating the events that aren't working. Spokane County Raceway will hold a demo derby August 10 and NASCAR's K & N Pro Series will race August 24, plus other local events.

Classic car and motorcycle show at South Side Senior Center

On Saturday July 27th, from 9am-4pm, the Southside Senior and Community Center and the Thunderbird Car Club are hosting a Classic Car and Motorcycle show at the Southside Senior & Community Center, located on 27th and Ray on the South hill. There will be vendors, live music, a beer garden, children's ID program, and lots of other activities. Free to the public.

Awards given for cars and motorcycles entered. Entry for vehicles in the competition is $15. It's not too late to be a sponsor for the event.
