Lake City Playhouse benefit with Abbey Crawford




Lake City Playhouse in Coeur d'Alene is having a one night special benefit to send their K2 show to the nationals. This Sunday night, April 28 at 7:30, Abbey Crawford and Friends present a musical showcase. The show is directed by Abbey Crawford and features Patrick McHenry-Kroetch, Andrew Ware Lewis, Doug Dawson, Janelle Frisque, Jim Ryan, Abby Crawford, Tom Heppler, Mary Ann McLaughlin, and others! Come party like a Gatsby with the Spokane Symphony




Join the Spokane Symphony for a Swanky Sunday afternoon party from 3 to 6:30 pm, this Sunday, April 28. 'The Great Gatsby: a Conversation, Music and a Movie.' It's a $50 Fundraiser for the Spokane Symphony Society. Transport back to a time of Ritz and Glamour, all in the perfect setting of Spokane's Art Deco treasure, Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox.

Sip on a beverage from the Gin Mill or a cup of Java, and nibble on Sweet Treats. Enjoy Kendall Feeney at the piano. Listen to local historians and film critics set the mood and tell tales of the Roaring 20s. Then enjoy the Robert Redford version of the film under the beautiful Art Deco Sunburst. The afternoon will also include chances to win Symphony tickets and a few more fun surprises.

Still time to register for Tom Quinn's cloud painting class

Spokane Art School, 809 West Garland in the Ruby Slipper, presents Painting Clouds in Oil Workshop with Tom Quinn, for ages high school to adult, this Saturday, April 27 from 10 to 2pm. Students will discuss the different kinds of clouds and how they behave under various light conditions, look at how the best artists paint their clouds, have a demonstration of painting a typical cloud formation, and practice painting clouds from photographs. Preregistration is required. There is a $30 class fee.

A mother-daughter art exhibit




Miami-born Hara Allison, Owner and Creative Director of STUDIO H Advertising & Design, will exhibit her work at Barili Cellars, 608 West 2nd Avenue, for the month of May, an especially appropriate month given Mother' Day, because Allison will also include works created by her late mother Sonya.

This special mother-daughter exhibit will combine the talents of both artists, showcasing their unique bond created by art. "This Mother's Day is extra special for me," says Allison. "My mom passed away in 1986 at the young age of 46, and I'll be 46 this year. I can't think of a better way to honor her memory than for people to get to view her art-and her heart-up close."

A whimsical, magical art sale this Saturday




Three popular Spokane artists, Wendy Zupan Bailey, Louise Kodis and Virginia Carter present 'Flourishes, Furnishings & Findings' an art sale is this Saturday, April 27 from 10am-5, at Wendy's Studio, 2704 S Stone.

Working with clay, paper and threads, some of Wendy's whimsical sculpted merriments have a vintage appeal, others are animated puppetry and delicate curiosities for those who love the art of the fairy tale. Some of her work can be previewed at www.wendyzupanbailey.com.

Virginia Carter's claywork will bring dreams to the waking hours with her fancy gardens on bowls, platters and cups. Her bird houses will invite species from far away to come nest awhile. Virginia makes one of a kind, whimsical, functional pottery and unique sculptural forms.

The show will also introduce the collaborative work of Louise and Wendy as they present their paper couture, costumed mannequins, girl bags and decorative furnishings.

Dancing with the Celebrities Saturday night at 7

Join CYT-Spokane at the Bing Crosby Theater this Saturday night, April 27 at 7 for their 6th annual 'Dancing with the Celebrities' benefit. Local celebrities are paired with professional dance instructors as they dance to raise funds for Christian Youth Theater. The audience votes for their favorite contestant by placing dollars into the basket designated for that couple ($1=1 vote, $15=15 votes, etc). 'Cooking with Love' cooking & mixology class

May's 'Cooking with Love' cooking class is dedicated to Cinco de Mayo and Mexican cuisine. The class will be held at 11712 E. Boone Ave in the Spokane Valley on Tuesday, May 7 from 6 to 8:30 pm.

The evening starts with a Mexican punch and 'Natchitoches Style Meat Pies' and 'Tuna Ceviche with Avocado & Cilantro' along with 'Tortilla Chips' and 'Homemade Guacamole & Salsa'. During class you will learn how to make a 'Garlic & Pasilla Chile Soup', 'Mexican Spiced Ribeye with Lime Butter', 'Spicy Grilled Chicken with Creamy Pumpkin Mole Sauce', 'Arroz Verde Al Poblano', and a 'Watermelon & Papaya Salad with a Tequila Lime Vinaigrette'. You will also be making 'Salsa Negra with Chipotle' and a 'Chile Cilantro Pesto'. And for dessert, finish with 'Mexican Chocolate Pots de Creme'. The cocktail selection will consists of a 'Black Widow', 'Guadalajara Silver', and an 'Iced Caramel Coffee'.

This will be a hands on course, so bring your aprons. Samples of all drinks & foods created will be offered for your enjoyment.
