Go Zags! Congratulations on being ranked #1!




Our beloved Gonzaga University Bulldogs are ranked number one in the nation in the AP men's basketball poll Monday for the first time in program history. And the men and women swept the WCC All-Conference awards yesterday. Kelly Olynyk was voted player of the year, Mike Hart defensive player of the year and Mark Few coach of the year. Olynyk, Elias Harris and Kevin Pangos were named to the 10-member All-WCC team. Gary Bell Jr. made honorable mention.

The Lady Zags basketball team won its ninth-straight West Coast Conference women's basketball regular season title and the top seed in the WCC Tournament. Senior guard Taelor Karr was named the Player of the Year, junior guard Jazmine Redmon was named Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Kelly Graves is the Coach of the Year for the seventh time.

Karr and junior guard Haiden Palmer were also named to All-Conference. Sophomore forward Sunny Greinacher received WCC honorable mention and redshirt freshman center Shelby Cheslek was named to the All-Freshman squad.


Bada Bing at the Bing this Friday night at 8

The Bada Bing Comedy show this Friday night, March 8 at 8 pm at the Bing will feature Ken Martin as the emcee and Ed Clark as the opening act for nationally acclaimed comedy stars Kermet Apio and Joe Vespaziani. 2013 NW Bach Festival is Under Way




The 35th Annual Northwest Bach Festival presented by Connoisseur Concerts has performances this weekend and again on March 24. This year's Festival is a celebration of Artistic Director Gunther Schuller who will retire at the conclusion of this Festival. The new Artistic Director Designate is Zuill Bailey, featured in the March 24 Special Event concert. Zuill Bailey is a world-renowned performing artist in cello and director of music festivals in El Paso, Texas and Sitka, Alaska. The 2013 Festival concerts will all be held at St. John's Cathedral, 127 E. 12th Avenue at Grand Boulevard in Spokane.

This Saturday, March 9, at 8:00pm, Gunther Schuller will conduct a program including Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 and Bach's Violin Concerto No. 2. General Admission tickets are $30 ($15 for students). On Sunday, March 10 at 3pm will be a Piano Recital by Christopher O'Riley , Bach's Goldberg Variations. General Admission Tickets $30 ($15 for students). Finally on Sunday, March 24 at 3pm the performance will be a cello recital by Zuill Bailey of Bach's Complete Suites for Unaccompanied Cello. General Admission Tickets $50.

The 2013 Festival concerts will all be held at St. John's Cathedral, 127 E. 12th Avenue at Grand Boulevard in Spokane.

Civic's 'The Turn of the Screw' moves on to Regionals!

Spokane Civic Theatre wins at the 2013 Kaleidoscope State Theatre Festival and moves on to the Regional competition. Last weekend, Civic competed in the Washington State Theatre Festival (also know as Kaleidoscope) in Bremerton, WA. The festival was the first in a series of competitions (AACTFest 2013) held every two years by the American Association of Community Theatres.

Civic, with their production of 'The Turn of the Screw' (1st), and Bremerton Community Theatres' 'The Thread Men' (2nd), move on to the Regional (Washington, Oregon, Idaho & Alaska) competition, March 29-30, in Richland, WA. In addition, Susan Hardie was awarded Outstanding Director and Peter Hardie received the award for Outstanding Lighting Design.

Family night at Interplayers

Interplayers Theatre is offering an adventurous new service to parents while they are attending the performance of 'Speech and Debate,' allowing parents to bring elementary-aged children to enjoy supervised theatre games and activities in the Community Room. The hope is to inspire kids to be future play-goers themselves, and to give parents a way to enjoy their love of theatre.

This Family Night addition to the regular 7:30 Friday performance, happening on Friday, March 8, will now be a regular event one time in each run of a play. Parents may reserve a space through the Interplayers Box Office by calling 509-455-7529. The cost will be $20 per child.

Custer's Spring Arts & Crafts Show this weekend

The 36th Annual Spring Arts & Crafts Show will be at the Spokane Fair & Expo Center starting Friday, March 8 and continuing through Sunday, March 10.. This year's show will feature 300 professional artists and crafters from across the United States, displaying all different types of jewelry, pottery, photography, wall hangings and much more.

Motorcycle Show and Sale starts March 15

The 10th Annual Inland Northwest Motorcycle Show and Sale will be Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17 at the Spokane Fair and Expo Center.

This year the show features over 80,000 sq. ft of motorcycles, accessories, vendors and displays. Watch the Extreme Trail Riders from Lincoln, Nebraska conquer a monstrous obstacle course up to thirty feet in the air, without putting their feet on the ground. More Cooking Classes from Joanie's Magic Spoon

On Tuesday, March 12, Joanie's Magic Spoon will be offering a class on making crepes, both sweet and savory, including Crepes Suzette. There will be a bread class offered Tuesday, March 19 and you will learn to make many different types of breads, including French bread and pizza dough.

The Art Sprit Gallery presents the Best of the Basement

Andy Cline at the Kolva-Sullivan Gallery

Artist Andy Cline presents 'Are We There Yet?' a show featuring oil on board at the Kolva-Sullivan Gallery, 115 South Adams Street, Suite A, now through March 30.

A native of Red Lodge, Montana with a BFA from the University of Montana and now residing in Missoula, Andy has exhibited at the Custer County Art Center in Miles City and the Holter Art Museum in Helena. The most recent show of Andy's work, the Montana Triennial 2012 at the Missoula Art Museum, featured a survey of Montana's top artists. Andy's work takes the familiar landscapes along the highways and byways and turns them into stories that carry one across the vast canvas of Montana.

The Creek at Qualchan to open for the season on Friday

The Creek at Qualchan will officially begin operations for the 2013 Golf Season on Friday, March 8th. Staff says the course came out of winter well and the plan is to be playing on all 18 on opening day.
